10 Things you may or may not know about Miss Meg!

Well, at the very beginning of March I shared that I would be starting up our Monday's in March with Miss Meg series. This is always SUCH a fun series, a way to get to know me as a studio owner and learn more about who I am OUTSIDE of the studio. But the truth is, time got away from me this year and being as I'm a perfectionist and had already missed one Monday, I missed them all.  So here we are at the end of March, my birthday month, and I thought... what if this year to celebrate all of our teachers in their birthday months, we do a little 'Ten Things you may or may not know about _____' series!

I think it's a spectacular idea and so here's mine, just for you! And get excited, Miss Nina is up next! She's got a birthday in April!

So here we go. Ten Things you MAY or may not know about Miss Meg. Be sure to comment below and let me know how many of these you knew!

1. My coffee order:

So, I figure you definitely already knew that I was a coffee fanatic. In fact, I've been stopping to get coffees before dance since I was a young teacher back in Binghamton. It's totally become a habit and I'll be honest with you, I'm not sure it's one I can kick! But the real question is... do you know my coffee order?! If you stop at the Homer Coffee Mania location, you just have to ask for 'Miss Meg's Coffee' and they'll serve it right up!
So here goes: Large Iced Decaf Snickers with half the flavor and cream! Did you guess it right?!

2. I'm terrified of worms.

and slugs. and snakes. and DEFINITELY snails. Anything that's slimy and slithery really. It's true. I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but it's a fact! At my high school graduation party, the sweet little boy I used to babysit chased me around our yard with a worm. I thought for sure I would grow out of it, but I absolutely cannot garden without gloves because if a worm touches me, I'm out!

3. I'm fluent in American Sign Language

I know most of my students knew this already, but this might surprise some of our newer dance families! Although I'm probably very rusty, it's true! Before opening the studio, I was working as a freelance interpreter while also teaching dance for other local studios. Though I loved my clients, the language, and performance interpreting, I was more passionate about dance, and eventually stepped away to go all in on Signature Dance Studio! The best part of my interpreting career was getting to interpret for Billy Joel. Hands down a core memory in my life!

4. I just got my first cavity ever...

...and I cried. I also rescheduled the appointment to have it filled three times. I made it all the way to age 33 before needing to have a cavity filled and I am SUPER proud of that! Here's  a couple of other fun facts for you that I'm finding to be hilarious because they're all related to teeth...weird.
- I had 12 teeth pulled as a child, because they weren't falling out and my mouth was too small to house them all!
- I had braces... twice. #wearyourretainers #wisdomteeth
- wiggly teeth gross me out beyond belief. That's right. Please don't take offense my sweet dancers. I'm really excited for you! I just don't want to look!

Here's me with my brother who passed and my big sister! Plus our favorite grammy!

5. I'm the youngest of five!

That's right! I'm the baby of the family. I have an absolutely incredible older sister who runs her own hair salon here in NY and has three beautiful children, who I adore. She's eight years older than me and we did NOT like sharing a room together. I've got an older brother who lives in Florida with his beautiful family and is one of my biggest cheerleaders. He was always the one defending me and breaking up fights with our other brother. That would be my big brother who lives here in NY. He moved back a year ago which honestly was the best thing EVER! However, if you asked me if we got along when we were kids, well let's just say he used to sit on me for the tv remote and would lock me outside of the house. I'll let you decide! LOL! And lastly, I have an older brother who lives in heaven now. He was my very best friend growing up and the best Nintendo playing partner on the planet. Miss him every day!

5. I have absolutely no tattoos.

None. Zip. Zilch. and ZERO plans to get one! How many do you have?! My sister's middle said I should share this with everyone! They also said I make a mean popcorn ball at Christmas time. So, now you know!

6. I've never seen the Lion King on Broadway.

This always makes me chuckle because like WHAT DANCE TEACHER HAS NOT SEEN THE LION KING ON BROADWAY!? But I haven't. Although I did see Hairspray on Broadway and LOVED it. I also was lucky enough to interpret for WICKED when it came to town and that was another career highlight for me!

7. I'm a dog mom.

You definitely knew this one too. But I can't leave them off the list! I have two A D O R A B L E pups and I absolutely love to be their mom. Presley is my almost 9-year-old black lab who is a perfect ANGEL. She's got the gentlest demeanor, will not let you miss her dinner time, and loves to dive for rocks in the water. Ember is our husky/malamute mix who turns three this summer! She is so talkative, loves to sleep upside down, and can be found playing fetch in the yard whenever she gets the chance!
When I was younger, we had a black lab as a family dog, and I always knew I wanted a lab when I grew up. Funny story, I got into a fight with my best friend over getting Ember. Can you believe that I didn't want her!? It's true. Mr. Miss Meg wanted to bring her home and I originally said no. Just look at us now!

8. I will likely try and give you essential oils.

I'm slightly into essential oils. Some may say I'm obsessed. It's true and I won't deny it! I run an essential oil business in my very limited spare time and it's a community of wonderful like-minded people just trying to live a smidge more holistically every day. You can find us on the internet @missmegsessentails, all are welcome!

9. I was excused from ballet class once...

This was the one and only time I was ever asked to leave a dance class! I learned my lesson in a jiffy. It turns out that it is indeed not polite to tell your ballet teacher to her face that you 'HATE' ballet. I remember being pulled into my dancer teachers office and scolded. I felt AWFUL! It turns out that ballet still isn't my favorite, but I've come to appreciate it so much!

10. Mr. Miss Meg and I have been together for 11 years!

He probably won't want me to tell you this... but did you know he's a GREAT dancer!? It's one of the things I adore about him! We celebrated 11 years together on March 25th. We're all really lucky to have him supporting us at SDS!

Well, there you have it! Ten random things about your dance studio owner! This is SO much harder to do than you think! Let me know in the comments if you were surprised by one of these or how many you knew! Or tell me a fun fact about you! I'd love to know more about you!

Lots of love and happy dancing!
Miss Meg

One thing you forgot to mention meg. Miss meg is an amazing tapper. I’ve vowed that through hard work and lots of practice, I’m hoping to tap as fast as miss meg before Macey graduates. And if I’m not there in 3 years, I’ll keep trying till London graduates.
Meg is an inspiration when she dances, I’m lucky to have her teaching my children as well as myself through patience , hard work, and love.

Hey Miss Meg!

It's Sophia Simmons and I really loved the facts especially the one about the essential oils because I recently got a aromatherapy one with 12 different oils!

Thanks,
Sophia Simmons
